The smooth functioning of traditional Local Exchange Trading Systems (LETS) within a community relies heavily on the trust shared between members or with a central administrator. However, once this trust is compromised, it becomes impossible to maintain an immutable traceability of exchanges, leading to the collapse of the system. This project establishes new operational foundations designed to guarantee security through technology.

By leveraging the infrastructure of community networks, this approach integrates a local exchange service using a complementary digital local currency, ensuring more autonomous and secure management.

Technical Architecture
The security and decentralized nature of the LETS are maintained through a blockchain network operating in off-chain mode to minimize computational overhead within the community network.

Core Technologies
The implementation utilizes a robust stack of modern decentralized tools:
Ethereum Framework: Used as the foundational blockchain layer for smart contract logic.
ERC-20 Standard: Employed to create custom tokens representing the complementary local currency and to manage liquidity.
Hardhat: Utilized as the development environment for compiling, testing, and deploying the smart contracts that govern the network's rules.

User Interface and Interaction
To bridge the gap between complex blockchain logic and everyday use, a mobile application serves as the primary gateway. Through this intuitive interface, community members can:
Join the local network and create secure accounts.
Initiate peer-to-peer transactions instantly.
Consult their balance in the local complementary currency in real-time.

This hybrid off-chain approach ensures that the local economy remains resilient, transparent, and scalable, even in environments with limited external connectivity.
